Cutting Edge Architects Return to Muncie

SLAB: Human Game Installation, Florence, Italy and First Financial Group, Angola, Indiana

Ball State University's College of Architecture and Planning is welcoming back three of its alma mater by hosting an installation and lecture by SLAB Architecture and OpenShop|Studio of New York City. The exhibition will begin with a lecture on Monday, November 5th at 4pm.

SLAB is Jeffrey Johnson and Jill Leckner. Jeffrey currently teaches architecture and design at Columbia University, and has worked with Rem Koolhaas' Office of Metropolitan Architecture and Michael Sorkin Studio. Jill has managed projects and collaborated with notable architects including Asymptote and Gaetano Pesce. Jeffrey and Jill have been working together since the early-1990's after graduating from Ball State. SLAB's current projects include resort and residential designs in the United States and Mexico, and visionary technology projects for the New York Stock Exchange.


OpenShop|Studio: Apartment 423.2E, Brooklyn, New York

OpenShop|Studio is Mark Kroeckel and Adam Hayes. Mark is a 1992 graduate of Ball State University, and he and Adam began working together shortly after graduate school at Rice University in Houston, Texas. OpenShop has built designs in a variety of project types and has collaborated extensively on projects in China. OpenShop was recently awarded an Honorable Mention in the annual I.D. Magazine Design Review for their loft apartment project 432.2E in Brooklyn, New York.

Both studios will be discussing their work through the framework of three themes: research, design and fabrication. The exhibition will be open through December 14th. Contact the BSU CAP for more information.
