Poll #7 Political Slant?

This week, I wanted to pose a question that I think I know the answer to, and is often the basis of one of my arguments, but I thought I should throw it out there to our readers and see what the answer is. At least in this small segment of the community. While it is not my goal to steer the conversation into politics per se, I do think we are all bombarded with it these days and most of us have strong opinions concerning sides. Perhaps after the votes are tallied, I will explain my argument previously mentioned.

Previous Poll Results for:

When it comes to art exhibitions, I prefer...

Solo shows- 12 (40%)

2-3 person shows- 7 (23%)

Conceptually themed shows- 11 (36%)

Salon style group shows- 0 (0%)

Other- 0 (0%)

Total Votes: 30

I guess we learned at least one thing from this poll... Salon style group shows are not the thing to do. I was expecting some larger shifts in polls with the other options but it turns out that things are fairly even.

Libertarian?

I chose not to add Libertarian, Socialist, Communist, Green Party, etc out of the poll as they tend to never quite have the voter turn out to really make a dent on the current 2 party political system we are stuck with. It is often discussed and speculated that those who tend to vote for these parties actually sway the votes away from the Democratic party giving the Republican party bigger leads. Whether this is true or not, I do not know though I do think that there is something to be said for that. In the end, I think that the term "Independant" could be vague enough to encompass all of the above. Hope that clarifies my thinking.

Scott, The Libertarian party votes typically take votes away from the Republican party. I consider myself a Libertarian and the Democrat policies are far more Socialist than a Libertarian could go for.

I stand corrected. But I do hope the "independant with a particular slant" option is still sufficient for the sake of this particular poll.

My limited knowledge of the Libertarians, as for the few I have known, is that they were pro marijana and feel the government should leave us alone. I certainly hope and expect they have much more to offer than that as I am sure that it would not be your choice simply for that reason. I do not think that this is at all the limitations of the party just that I am uninformed when it comes to them. AS it turns out, I am unsure how many people, when truely asked about partiuclar issues, truely know where their political views lay. I recently started searching the net for political party quizes, but most appear biased. I would love to know if one exists that is truly refined and accuarte in its placement of ones views.

I took a test on a site called www.politicalcompass.org and my result was a bit nebulous as far as political parties are concerned but my results were,

Economic Left/Right: -6.12

Social Libertarian/
Authoritarian: -4.62

This placed me, according to their charts, in the realm of Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama, a bit of a surprise to me concerning some of my answers. But I do like the company.

Update, I came across another politcal quiz at: www.politicalbrew.com/politest.cgi again this one rates more my stance with out allocating which party I would fall into. My results were as follows:

On Non-Fiscal Issues, you rank as a Moderate Liberal (31).

On Fiscal Issues, you rank as a Strong Liberal (15).

(Your score is on a scale of 0 to 100, with 0 being fully liberal and 100 being fully conservative.)

Hmmm, so I guess I am a liberal. A liberal artist, what a surprise.

Libertarians and Republicans believe in smaller government. Democrats believe in larger government.

Just as the Libertarians sometimes take away from Republicans, the Green Party often takes away from Democrats. Bush owes big thank yous to Ralph Nader.

I voted for Ralph Nader the last time because I did not like either other choice. This time I will be voting for John McCain. He is an environmentally friendly candidate (McCain-Lieberman, etc) but he isn't wanting to make all the decisions about my life for me like the other two main presidential contenders.

- Not a Democrat

Wow, have you seen J. McCain speak? He will also keep Iraq going for as long as we exist, he supported Bush in his campaings, he's got to be lying about somthing. He can't support a candidate that is so different and stump the opposite when it's his turn, do you know what I mean?

I think I'm in favor of Obama because of his community organizing background. It's time to think of democracy as a system for the majority and not for my interests alone. Who's with me?

If you missed the first part of Frontline's "Bush's War" last night, check it out online and watch the conclusion tonight.
