Weekend Preview

I seriously need to find a more efficient way to organize and post these weekend previews, preferably with images for each one. Alas, that is not always possible. So, for this weekend, we have just a couple shows and a bit of somewhat sad news from Flux. This is from their latest email:
"It's a new year, and with it brings change. FLUX will be operating a bit
differently this year, with DeAnne and Nicci taking time to focus on their own
endeavors. What this means for the Gallery is that there are no scheduled shows for 2008, but we're not saying that all is silent. Something could pop up along the way, and if so we'll let you know right away. With that said, we would like to thank you for all of the support given to the artists and FLUX. The last three years were wonderful, we've enjoyed working with every artist, and visiting with so many of you. Our current plan is to reopen in 2009 as a full time gallery. By taking this time we will focus on the needs of the building, our own work in our personal, professional and creative lives, and to give ourselves a chance to breath."
I certainly understand their need to take a break, focus on their own work and regroup for next year. Good luck ladies. I can not wait to see your 2009 schedule.

These exhibitions will highlight artworks created by students in the Masters and Bachelor of Fine Arts program. Students will present Internet-based work, video art, flash-based animation, and other works in new media, contemporary photographs, photographs taken with pinhole camera, and works that explore the uses of new media.

Oops. Left my comment in the wrong fluxing spot.
Wow, Flux must be in flux. What an
incredibly fluxing irony. Great art will be roaming the streets muttering “Where the flux do we go now?”
There’s nothing as pitiful as homeless art gathered under a bridge burning brushes and palettes to keep warm, begging for a quick peek from some fluxing passerby.
You fluxers, you left us in flux.
We’ll all be in a tizzy until you make up your fluxing minds.

Perhaps as you make your way to Chicago or other destinations, you may want to stop by a few galleries that you've ignored and review their work as well, even if it means saying something honest or possibly negative. Below is a list of galleries regularly having monthly or bi-monthly shows you could review or include on your list of "gallery openings" but choose not to:

When you choose to ignore all of these venues, it creates a very exclusive art community on your part that is centrist in attitude and puts a wall between you and the rest of the art community who you may feel isn't "edgy" enough for inclusion but are totally valid and who's artists are creating good, solid art (and in some cases, actually making a living at it).
Building an art community means including all of the art community, regardless of whether or not you happen to like the art being created.
