Lot/Ek coming to Indy on Monday

Above: Lot/Ek's proposal for a hotel in Guadalajara, Mexico using recycled airplanes as the major structural components

I just found out this morning that The Indianapolis Center for Ball State University's College of Architecture & Planning is bringing renowned NY architects Lot/Ek to Indy for a talk on Monday at noon. I have been following their work for some time now and I'm really excited to hear them in person. From Interior Design Magazine: They like, for example, to harness the often untapped potential of found objects, man-made materials, and technologies that may or may not be considered conventional building products.

Ironic isn't it, that their talk comes on the heals of this morning's announcement that the City of Indianapolis will be giving developers almost $50 million to build a hotel that places design as a complete afterthought? See here and here.

Very inspiring!

Lot/Ek work is too contemporary for Indianapolis. The people in charge at the City of Indianapolis are not cultured and can't appreciate world class aesthetics.

Here's another NYC architecture firm that is doing amazing work:

Diller Scofidio + Renfro
