Internet art sites of interest

At times I spend too much time stumbling around the vast internet hopping from one site to another in search of some yet unknown bit of art net treasure. Well, here are a few links that I visit often, that I feel are relevant to many of our readers. I hope you take the time to check out some of them. If you have an art related site you think we should know about, please let us know about it in the comments section. Enjoy.

Tate's Online Events Archive: This vast collection of webcasts of lectures and discussions held at the Tate. This archive offers hours of video slide talks of such artists as Anselm Kiefer, Jeff Wall, Charles Ray, Olafur Eliason, Francis Alys, and many, many, more. I have spent much time listening to these and hope that one day more and more museums will offer the same. [Note: the image quality is lacking, but after all these lectures are usually well over an hour long.]

The Walker Channel Archive: The Walker Art Center in Minneapolis continues to stay ahead of the game when it comes to contemporary art and providing one of the best examples of how an art museum should run. Their archive of artist lectures is a bit smaller than that of the Tate's but is still a wonderful repository for artist webcasts. [Note: image quality is much clearer than that of the Tate's.]

WPS1 Art Radio: This is a weekly updated internet radio broadcast from P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center. I used to listen to segments of this show weekly but their current programming seems to have slipped into repeating the art segments again and again. Hopefully they will start producing and airing new art related shows weekly as they used to. Either way, they do have a large archive of past programs for you to check out till they get back on track.

Artinfo.com: offers up a similar art magazine style like that of Artnet.com (another favorite I have mentioned in previous posts). Much of their site has yet to become completely active but of note are some wonderful columns regarding Emerging Artists by Joao Ribas as well as a growing collection of interviews with artists in their features section called, The AI Interview. I look forward to seeing what else they end up doing as the rest of the site grows.

PaintersNYC: This blog is devoted to posting an image from a NYC painter each day. Each day a different painter. This has become a one of the most commented to blogs on the art blog circuit. As a painter, I find this site entertaining and insightful. And, after all, it has introduced me to some artists I may not have seen work by living here in Indianapolis. Perhaps this type of site is the perfect way to educate yourself further on painting. What do ya think Chris?

Artfacts.net: This is just a great resource for tracking information about artists exhibiting in galleries and museums around the globe. Find out where your favorite artist is showing and what galleries they are represented by.
