Damien is doing just fine in his little auction. Through the first five lots, all have sold close to or above their high estimates. The first formaldehyde piece 'The Kingdom' (est 4,000,000 to 6,000,000 GBP) which is a smaller version of Hirst's most famous shark piece just sold for a hammer price of 8,500,000 GBP (not including buyers premium).
Are Jay and Larry driving up the prices or is this the real market at work? Time will tell.
