Kentucky gets a Libeskind

The ongoing battle between Cincinnati, OH and Covington, KY continues with the opening of Daniel Libeskind's Ascent. A few years ago, Zaha Hadid designed Cincinnati's Contemporary Art Center. A building that has been touted as one of the greatest buildings in North America. From initial reactions (scroll down), it doesn't appear that Libeskind's building across the river will receive the same praise. I am, however, still looking forward to seeing it next weekend during the WKRP Scooter Rally!! But I digress....

What I like about the building happening just a couple hours to the east is that people are talking about it. With one recent exception, there is not a lot of talk about all of the development that is happening in around Indy because quite frankly, not much of it is very exciting. A friend of mine was talking last night about how she thought Lucas Oil Stadium was such a huge disappointment. At first I disagreed with her, but the more I thought about I couldn't help but wonder what else the city could have done with $750 million. Maybe a giant bird's nest would have been nice???

What ever happened to that proposed "ferris-wheel" sculpture as Indy's new "icon."? A lousy idea, but did it die?

I haven't heard that it's dead.
