The new Library, etc.

Jason at Circle and Squares has the write up on the new library I have had half-finished for a week now. I pretty much agree with everything he says so I will just point you there. He has better pictures than I took too. This is a great library. I must admit I was a little more excited by the plans a few years ago than I am by the actual building, but in most respects it's incredibly successful. The atrium/Starbucks will now compete with the local coffee shops I frequent, the children's wing makes me wish I could shave about 25 years off my life, the restoration of the original Cret Building makes you want to thank all parties involved for for preserving this gem, and the tunnels that lead from the Cret Building into the new atrium make it seem as if you are entering another world. Most impressive, however, is driving down Meridian Street at night and seeing floor after floor lit up and stacked with books. It's definitely worth the trip.

Also, Richard Lacayo at Time takes a look at the year that was in American architecture (and includes some things to come as well).

Finally, Zaha Hadid's stations for the Nordpark Cable Railway in Innsbruck are stunning.
