Contemporary Explorations of the 2D/3D Divide
This session explores painters' experiences with the nature of "real" space in the wake of Robert Rauschenberg's "combine" paintings of the late 1950s and 1960s. Today artists can further consider space by deconstructing a painted canvas from its stretchers (Cruz), merging their work with industrial or interior design (Dafflon) or using computer modelling to "paint" in three-dimensional space (Ritchie).
