Sound your voices...

I have posted a few times on architecture in Indianapolis. Jason over a Four Square No. 266 has joined in as well. An architect himself, he seems a little afraid to be too critical, but he does pose an interesting question.

He argues that most Hoosiers don't want a Gehry or Hadid. I would argue that what the people want is somewhat irrelevant in this case. What it takes is one visionary citizen or corporation to take the ball and run with it. The rest of the city would then catch up. It's a shame we've had some golden opportunities recently, but (to continue with the football analogy) we've fumbled.

David Hoppe seems to agree with us too. Both here and here.

One visionary IS all Indinapolis needs! Is that too freaking much to ask?!! Our fair city is about as edgy as "The World According to Jim" or whatever the heck that Belushi sitcom is called. People have heard about it, have a vague notion of what it's about, and wonder "Is that show still on?".

Damn, how did we come down to a Jim Belushi reference... We have a ways to go I guess.
