Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park

[art and nature park grounds, image is from the IMA's web site]

So, here we go. It looks as if the new Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park on the grounds of the Indianapolis Museum of Art will be the largest of its kind in the states. You can read up on much of the grants and funding being put towards the park in this news article. This should prove a massive undertaking and quite a wonderful addition to the city. I believe Maxwell Anderson is just the person to head this type of project and I foresee a lot more national attention on the city once the park opens in 2009.

At this time the only artist I know that has been slated to construct a site specific work for the park is Mary Miss. To see the sketches and protoypes for her amazing proposed project go to the her web site, click on the link "outdoor", and then go to the work titled "proposal for a ravine". Looks wonderful. Walking through the tree tops... If this is the first, I can't wait to see who else they choose for the space. How many artists and works will they have for the 2009 opening? Any local artists? If so, how many? What other artists are they looking at? So many questions, yet so much time to wait.

Since I can't quite speculate yet, I thought I would list my top 10 of the national/international contemporary artists whose work I would like to see on the site like, Franz West, Martin Puryear, Richard Serra, Sarah Sze, Gelatin, Per Kirkeby, Maya Lin, Olafur Eliasson, Kiki Smith, and Katharina Grosse. Well, lookin at this list, I don't think I would actually say this is my top 10 exactly as I have a feeling that I am forgetting a few artists but I would be happy to see any of their work included. Who would you like to see included? Locals?

I personally would love to see some of Kyle Ragsdales flowers all over that site, along with Susan Hodgin's flowers all over. If Scott made flowers I would love to see it all over too. Flowers... the world is beautiful with flowers... we don't have any problems just flowers... flowers... no wars, starving people living with $1 a day, just flowers... no emotional issues, just flowers... flowers are pretty. flowers are up lifting. I like flowers. I live for flowers and they do too. Christopher can we have flowers at IMOCA? I belive I speak for everyone when I say flowers are the most comforting product of nature, the bestest of them all. FLOWER!!!

some of those flowers are pretty mean. i got hurt by a thistle once. and that poison ivy is a mean mutha.

hey, nothing wrong with pretty art, it's better than illuminating violence because by the looks of things, it's not keeping it from happening. so go on, now, paint your angry stuff and violent images and just keep perpetuating the dark side.
