March First Friday Tour

Landscapes by John Burton will be featured at the Artistic Spirit Gallery in the basement of the Phoenix Theatre this Friday as one of 25 downtown galleries open.

IDADA First Friday openings this month include, Franklin Barry Gallery at the Frame Shop will be exhibiting oil paintings by African American Artist, Mae Engron; florals and landscapes by visiting Columbian artist Maria Restrepo; watercolors by Indiana artist Lisabeth Armstrong. Artistic Spirit Gallery will be featuring John Burton's Landscapes, Real and Imaginary , in the lower level of the Phoenix Theatre.

LAMP Fine Art Gallery will have "Artist of the Month" Daniel Evans plus several works from the LAMP artist collective. McFee Gallery of Modern Art will offer a two-man show featuring paintings by Allen Levy, Washington, D.C. and new works by McFee, At Dean Johnson, “Artists interpret “functional art" and create work that is designed or adapted for a particular use. Pieces will range from practical items such as furniture and lighting to the abstract and absurd.

The Harrison Center for the Arts celebrates fiber with high art in the Harrison Gallery and high craft in Gallery No. 2. In the Harrison Gallery, five artists conceptually explore interconnections among string, fabric and thread. Featured artists: Tammy Burke (Louisville, KY), Anna Campbell (Madison,WI), Elyce Elder, Scott Grow and Lori Miles. In Gallery No. 2, INfiber features the work of Indiana fiber artists. The whole building comes to life with 16 open studios, knitting circles, music and installations.

At Stutz Art Gallery, "Brothers: The Art of Brian and Jason Hendrickson" Paintings. The Hendricksons’ share a passion for creating art but their individual approaches are vastly different. This combined exhibit showcases the familial creative spirit as well as divergent creative inspiration. At Ruschman Art Gallery, contemporary prints from the studios of Tandem Press. New works by Sam Gilliam, Judy Pfaff, Robert Cottingham, Suzanne Caporael and others. Thru April 1st. At Big Car N at Invoke Studios, Toni Hook and Mary Reese. And iMOCA offers Contradictory Impulses, an exhibition of original handmade artworks by Reanne Estrada. The iMOCA exhibition will include existing works and site-specific installations.

In Fountian Square: Big Car Gallery features “Everybody Everywhere” paintings and drawings by Nat Russell with live music and the IDADA after party at 9 p.m. with Rooster, Sea Space Change, Me vs. Us and others. Indie Brew will be on hand selling excellent beer and wine selections. At Galerie Penumbra: In Her Element: The Art of Four Women featuring Peg Zeglin Brand’s “Picture Yourself Here.” The Collective Art Gallery will be featuring Garry Prosser “The Dance.”

The IDADA "First Friday Art Tour" will take place every first Friday of the month thru the 2006 season. A map with gallery information will be available along the tour in participating venues.
