Gerhard Richter on the internet

Just the other day I was having a discussion with a friend about the lack of information you can find on artists on the internet. Considering art is more often than not a very visual based language, you would think that more and more artists would allow there work to be seen on the internet. The idea of image theft to me is a poor argument for not having a website. That said, I was very pleased and suprised when I stummbled upon this site dedicated to Gerhard Richter's work and career. This is perhaps the most informative and thorough website devoted to an artists work. The site is apparenly put togther by a group called The Contemporary Art Institute. I could not find more information on the group aside from what little they say about themselves on his site here. But if they continue to make more sites like this I will be thrilled. Oh, and the picture here is "Betty" (1988), this painting of his ranks in my top 5 art works of all time. I just love this piece. Check it out.

That is such a great painting. It ranks right up there among my favorite paintings of his. I don't think I'd put it in my top 5 of all time, but that could be a discussion at a later date. Maybe later today... hmmm.
I had a chance to see Richter's retrospective at SFMOMA and he has an astonishing number of amazing paintings. But the thing I liked the most was he has a lot of really bad paintings too, many of which were included in the retrospective. I found that pretty refreshing and encouraging.
