Weekend Preview

Looks like you'll be paying for your own wine most of the weekend...

Friday

Hatch Show Print at Dean Johnson Gallery. Monoprints by Jim Sherraden. 5 to 9 pm.

'Til death do us part

We have been discussing criteria for our weekend arts calendar and have come up with a few ideas.
1 - the work must be contemporary (ie, the art of our time)
2 - the venue's predominant function should be the promotion and advancement of the visual arts (we're not going to include every coffee shop show in town)
3 - the show should focus on the work of one particular artist or have a strong curatorial/themetic vision for group shows
4 - geographically we will focus on Indianapolis with the ability to expand coverage for a particular show if warranted
5 - this list is allowed to morph as we see fit.
6 - finally, we've got to know about it. Make sure you are in Nuvo, you've been passing out postcards, etc. and we'll organize the bevy of information into hopefully one easy to follow format.

Happy Thursday and feel free to comment on above criteria.

I think it means the non-sucking works done by people who are or think fresh.

"non-sucking works done by people who are or think fresh" is one of the best definitions I think I have ever heard.

I think the work needs to be professionally crafted and conceptually sound - those are usually my two criteria. But of course it's the contemporary arts, so it's nearly impossible to pin down a single definition.

The great musician Louis Amstrong was once asked to describe jazz.

His reply: "You'll know it when you hear it."

The same applies to contemporary art.

"You'll know it when you see it."
