I just got an email from the NOVA people a couple days ago. They are going to have the first NOVA Miami this year during all the others surrounding Art Basel. Art fairs galore down in Miami this year:)Scotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08672060180035841416noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19444064.post-1145715738661534482006-04-22T10:22:00.000-04:002006-04-22T10:22:00.000-04:00NOVA sounds interesting, but obviously they they d...NOVA sounds interesting, but obviously they they didn't learn from the Chevrolet Nova naming debacle. In Spanish, "No va" means, roughly, "don't go." At least the fair isn't in Miami. :-)Lisa Hunterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16273391238820872246noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19444064.post-1145381988302507642006-04-18T13:39:00.000-04:002006-04-18T13:39:00.000-04:00I for one am a fan of the NOVA art fair and what t...I for one am a fan of the NOVA art fair and what they are attempting to do. Booth space at most of the other art fairs in the country have outrageous prices that knock out a lot of younger galleries from any chance of showing. NOVA, now just in its second year is still growing, learning, and trying to give an alternative to the other art fairs in Chicago that weekend. As for the galleries and art collectives that have shown there and those that are showing this year, there are some wonderful selections. Are there some that are not so interesting, of course. But, you will get the same from the bigger art fairs as well. As someone who attended both fairs last year, though I enjoyed both, NOVA was more laid back, had a casual air about it. It didn't feel as stuffy or money hungry. Obviously, most of the art that is being shown in, there for its marketablity but that is what an art fair is for. As a viewer, I just want to see some interesting art and get a glimps of some galleries I have never had the opportunity to see before. I expect to get this at both art fairs. I can't wait to see what Bucket Rider will be showing as it has been one of my favorite galleries in Chicago for some time now, and there are a number of NYC area galleries that have good reputations showing as well. What better art viewing options are you going to get that weekend? For those that are planning on going, I may still see you there.Scotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08672060180035841416noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19444064.post-1145377131591310932006-04-18T12:18:00.000-04:002006-04-18T12:18:00.000-04:00Dorky galleries equal galleries that show not so g...Dorky galleries equal galleries that show not so good art. I'd rather be tragically hip than a bad dorky artist. At least my clothes would be good. There is certainly some classic dork art featured in some of it's ads. I always squirm at the paintings featuring dreamy young women, often with black hats, always with fetching cleavage, and usually sitting at a bar.
Still, I would rather be a bit of a dork than ultra cool and hip. I decided that was a laughable waste of time years ago.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19444064.post-1145305048716057132006-04-17T16:17:00.000-04:002006-04-17T16:17:00.000-04:00You mean the ones that purchase ads on publication...You mean the ones that purchase ads on publications such as "The business of Art"?
nanotechAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19444064.post-1145298579660182892006-04-17T14:29:00.000-04:002006-04-17T14:29:00.000-04:00Anonymou, please define what you mean by dorky.
